Mattie Gomillion has announced her intent to seek the office of Butler County Circuit Clerk.
Gomillion, who currently works as a court specialist in the Butler County Circuit Clerk’s Office, will run as a Democrat.
“Right now, Butler County’s Circuit Clerk’s Office is staffed at 48.2 percent due to the budget cuts,” she said. “If I get elected, I will continue to work as a clerk in the office with the staff, while also handling the responsibilities of the Circuit Clerk to help offset some of the staff losses from the budget cuts. I plan to be on the job working.”
Prior to joining the Butler County Circuit Clerk’s Office in 2000, Gomillion spent two years working in the Conecuh County Circuit Clerk’s Office. She cited her experience in the office as a reason she is qualified to fill the void that will be left by the retirement of Allen Stephenson, who has held the office for 17 years.
“Mr. Stephenson has allowed me to broaden my responsibilities over the years, so I have a very detailed understanding of what needs to be done in the office, and I love a challenge,” she said.
Gomillion, who is seeking political office for the first time, is married to Douglas Gomillion. The couple has one child.
