Well-known gaither singer, Janet Paschal, will be coming to Greenville.
On Dec. 9 at 7 p.m., Paschal will be coming to First Baptist Church in Greenville to sing mostly traditional Christmas family music.
Dana Casey, marketing director at Comfort Care Hospice, said Comfort Care has been sponsoring Paschal for a number of years.
“Last year, when the tornadoes came through, she dropped what she was doing with her concert and changed her schedule to call the Pelham office in that area and asked ‘What can I do for Alabama,’” Casey said. “She came and did a concert at the last minute. The only church that they could find was a very small church that could only house 200 people. She packed the house and they made $5,000 that she donated to the victims. That’s the kind of person she is and that’s why Comfort Care keeps choosing to sponsor her because she has such a big heart.”
Casey said she hopes the concert will be a great kickoff for the first canned food drive Comfort Care will be hosting.
“What we’re going to do with this concert is to ask for a donation for any type of food that is non perishable for admission,” Casey said. “It’s a free concert to the public. We’re going to gather it up until the last week until Christmas so the drop will be the office after this.”
The canned food will be donated to needy families in the community instead of going to DHR.
The First Baptist choir will be the back up for Paschal and David Norrell will be emceeing the event.
Paschal will also be available after the concert for a book signing for her book, The Good Road, which is about her fight with breast cancer.
“We want to say thank you personally from the people of Alabama and Comfort Care for what she did for the tornado victims so we’re going to give her a special gift from Alabama,” Casey said. “For us, it’s something that brings our community together that helps people that are needy in the community.”
