Sister Rosa Shanklin Hardy was born in Butler County, Alabama April 4, 1910 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Willie Shanklin. She departed this life November 8, 2011 at Crowne Healthcare of Greenville, Alabama.
Sister Rosa accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age and united with Union Missionary Baptist Church. Later in her life, she met and married Mr. Willie Hardy who preceded her in death. After marriage, they moved to Birmingham, Alabama where she united with Sixth Avenue Baptist Church.
At Sixth Avenue, she served faithfully for over seventy-five (75) years where her service included: Serving on the Usher Board, which has since been named the Rosa Hardy Usher Board in her honor; Serving as a member of the Missionary Circle; Serving as a member of the Sunbeams; Working as a childcare nurse in the Children’s Nursery; and Serving as a member of the Willing Worker’s Society. Sister Rosa was totally involved, dedicated and faithfully served in her commitments. In 1996, she was recognized and honored for her then 60+years of membership.
As her health began to decline, Sister Rosa prayerfully made the decision to move back to Greenville, Alabama to be near more of her family. At that time, she became and honorary member of the St. Francis Missionary Baptist Church where she attended as often as her health conditions would allow.
