McKenzie High School is bringing breast cancer awareness to students, faculty and staff through its FOCUS program.

FOCUS has been selling breast cancer awareness tattoos and will continue to sell them for 50 cents through the month of October, which is national breast cancer awareness month.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local cancer organization.

“Because it is breast cancer awareness month, we wanted to not only raise awareness, because we wanted to give back, but also raise awareness in our students for breast cancer,” FOCUS sponsor Candace Powell said.

The tattoos have been so popular that Powell had to order new tattoos for the football team to wear to the game and for more students and faculty to purchase.

“It’s been absolutely positive,” Powell said. “It’s been a wonderful selling so far.”

Along with the tattoos, the school has been incorporating the faculty and staff as well in raising awareness.

“We’ve also given ribbons to our teachers and staff,” Powell said.

“They are pink ribbons for them to wear.”

The FOCUS group has also made posters about breast cancer to post around the school to also raise awareness.
