FDA ranked third

Fort Dale Academy narrowly escaped with a win during the opening week of the season, but still managed to impress voters enough to retain a top-three ranking.

The Eagles (1-0) are ranked third in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association poll behind Monroe and Pike Liberal Arts. The Vols received 15 first-place votes, 10 more than the Patriots and 13 more than the Eagles.

Fort Dale Academy overcame four turnovers and a late fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Glenwood in the season opener.

The Eagles trailed 23-19 after Glenwood returned a fumble 80 yards for the go-ahead score with 6:23 to play.

Fort Dale responded with a 13-play, 65-yard drive to claim its first victory since capturing the AISA Class AAA title last season.

The Eagles will be back in action Friday night when they play host to Lee-Scott (1-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
