A local physician was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol following a two-vehicle accident on Fort Dale Road.

Dr. Danny Trammel Hood, 62, was arrested by the Greenville Police Department Aug. 6. Hood suffered minor injuries in the accident, but refused medical treatment, according to police reports.

Hood, a medical doctor with hospital privileges at L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital, was arrested at 9:43 p.m. and booked into the Butler County Correctional Facility. He was released from the facility Aug. 7.

Hood, who graduated from the University of South Alabama Medical College in 1976 with a specialization in internal medicine, has been in private practice for more than 30 years in Greenville.

Hood’s Aug. 6 arrest is one of at least two known alcohol-related incidents involving Hood in the last seven years.

In August of 2004, L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital officials confirmed that a physician was relieved of his duties following a lab test that showed he was intoxicated while working a shift in the emergency room.

That physician was identified in media reports as Hood.

Both Hood and officials from L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital declined to comment for this story.
