George Newton Owens, 74, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away July 13, 2011 from heart failure.

He was born in Greenville, AL on September 2, 1936.  He graduated from Greenville High School in 1954.  Mr. Owens proudly served in the United States Navy and was a Police Officer for the St. Petersburg Police Department until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of Northside Lodge # 283

Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley “Bowman” Owens and Thelma (Buck) Owens of Greenville, AL. His wife, Janette Ilene (Boles) Owens, daughter Debbie Sue both of St Petersburg, FL. Sisters Mary Lois Schneider of Lakeland, FL and Annie Muriel Schubel of Lake Wales, FL.

Mr. Owens is survived by his nephew Tony Blair of Gainesville, FL, niece Renee Blair of Lake Wales, FL, Jennifer Rader of Lakeland, FL, Julie Schneider of Land O Lakes, FL, Jane Marino, Anne Schneider, Lisa Schneider and Marti Schneider, all of Lakeland, FL. 7 great nieces, 5 great nephews, 3 great-great nieces and 1 great-great nephew.
