Andrea Burt has been chosen to represent Georgiana School at the 2011 session of Alabama Girls State, held on the campus of Troy University in Troy. For one week, she will become a citizen of an imaginary state, taking part in the political life of her community, primarily through campaigning for and electing city, county and state offices. She will learn the operation of government by participating in party caucuses and through the election process. Well-known speakers and other state, county and city officials are expected to visit and to enlighten the young women on their civic responsibilities.
Burt plans to campaign for the office of State Board of Education. She will speak to her sponsoring organization, Three Arts Club of Georgiana and Chapman, and to other organizations upon invitation, about her experiences at the American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State.
She is the daughter of Michael and Jennifer Burt and the granddaughter of Roger and Ollie Burt and the late A.D. Herring, Jr. and Jewel Thomas Herring. She was selected to attend Alabama Girls State because of her outstanding leadership.
Burt is also involved in Sr. Beta Club, National Honor Society, English Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, concert band and is yearbook editor.
