Thomas Daniel Conway, known to friends as ” Mr.Tom,” a resident of Fort Deposit, Ala., went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2001. He was 92 years old. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 22, 2011, at 3 p.m. from The Church of Christ of Fort Deposit, Ala., with Ministers Raymond Elliott and Curtis Earl Sampley officiating. Burial will follow in Myrtlewood Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home directing. A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marguerite (Heartsill) Conway; six children, Patricia Biagi, Ellen Williams (Tommy), Linda Conway, Thomas Daniel Conway, Jr.(Sherrie), Janet Conway (Steve Grant) and Laura McCann (Michael); 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Conway Gammon and a brother, Haurice Conway. Tom was born October 16,1918, the sixth of 10 children of Lena Idell (Daniel) and Lloyd Colvin Conway. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Deposit where he attended public schools and graduated from Lowndes County High School at the age of 16. Following a brief tenure with H.L. Green`s in Montgomery, Tom returned to Fort Deposit to work with his brother founding the Fort Deposit Plumbing & Electric Co. Tom met Marguerite Heartsill in 1937. He loved to recount the story of a pretty girl peeking around a tree. They married on June 13,1943, following a six-year courtship. Their family soon grew to include six children. . His grands remember walks in the field, going to Aunt Frankie’s, McDonald’s on Friday night. The great-grands remember riding in the ” BUG ” and the riding lawn mower.
The family has requested memorial donations be sent to AlaCare Hospice or Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation in lieu of floral memorials. They would also like to especially thank Denise with AlaCare Hospice and Deborah Patterson for their loving and dedicated care of Mr. Tom in recent weeks.
