“A Mighty Fortress is our God” is the theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer observance in Greenville, planned for noon Thursday at City Hall.

The annual event will feature a dozen pastors and ministers of music from the Butler County Ministerial Association leading the community in scripture reading, song and prayer.

The event will also feature remarks from Mayor Dexter McLendon.

The Greenville High School Color Guard will be on hand to present the colors.

“There will be prayers for our local elected leaders and the Seven Points of Prayer, covering our government, military, media, business, education, church and family,” said Allen Stephenson, president of the BCMA. “In the wake of last week’s devastating tornado and the continued turmoil overseas, we need prayer now more than ever. We hope members of our community will feel welcome to come and be a part of this corporate prayer experience.”
