50 years ago: The Greenville High School Publicity Committee includes Richie Hartley, Cecilia Williamson, Carter Anthony, Kay Watts, Eddie Newton and Kay Shirley . . . the elegant Colonial lady who never deserted her post at the organ during the Camellia Show was Mrs. Alvin Mixon of Georgiana. Her music was a welcome addition, as was her authentic costume of sea-green taffeta . . . Sally Crenshaw and her two young sisters Annie and Mary found this human skull in a ditch by the side of the road as they were passing on the school bus. It was at the junction of Cedar Creek and the old Federal Road where Gary’s Stockade was once located in the pioneer days. It could easily have been the skull of an Indian . . . a local dentist judged the person approaching middle age at death and the teeth were in perfect condition . . . Mr. and Mrs. Eric O. Cates are starting in the broiler business. A 10,000 capacity clear span house is being built, the first of its size and kind in the county . . . Starlington Junior High Dress Revue winners are taking pride in showing their dresses to the Assistant Home Demonstration Agent . . .

Marcia Golden and Jean Anne Thigpen are seen with a huge variety of Easter stuffed animals just in time for the holiday at Thigpen Drugs . . . Joyce Till, Glenda Easterling, Eloise Shirley were the top collectors for the Cystic Fibrosis foundation during the exercise marathon a few weeks ago, raising a total of $4,000 . . . Dee Powell, an official at Auburn University, accepts a check from Dr. and Mrs. Danny Hood on behalf of the Butler County Auburn Club to be used as scholarship funds for some deserving Butler County student . . .
