50 years ago: Dan River Mills President W. J. Erwin visited the local mill, taking to Charles C. Frye, superintendent of the Greenville mill. He is most complimentary of Greenville’s mill and its fine group of employees here . . . irresistible sales ladies are the one hundred local Brownies and Girl Scouts who are now taking orders for their delectable wares, Girl Scout cookies. Representatives of the six Greenville troops include Kathy Miller, Beth Hitchcock, Lee Ryan, Leah Carter, Signa Peavy, Kathryn Reid, Emily Hitchcock, Mollie Hardin, Anne Carter, Ginny Estes, Pam Stead and Kathy Haygood . . . Greenville High School senior champions of the intramural basketball tournament are Trelle Grayson, Jerry Estill, Ronny Faulk, Johnny Porter, Jamie Rainer, Jimmy Newton, Jerry Green, John Marlin Roper and Melvin Russell . . . Allen Ryan celebrated his fifth birthday with a Western party at the Country Club . . . Thursday is Color TV Day at Perry’s Electronics with 12 1/2 hours of color from dawn to midnight. 25 years ago: Smoke and flames engulfed the home of Jackie Lowery on Harrison Street Tuesday morning, with other fires occurring at the Curtis Moorer residence on 31 North and the Lionel Johnson home in Butler Estates within a 48-hour period . . . Mrs. Brenda Brown, Mrs. Richard Toney Sr., Richard Toney Jr., and Paul Brown joined Greenvillians Mrs. Clara Nichols, Mrs. Henry Brown and Mrs. Ollie Miller on a recent Carnival cruise to the Bahamas . . . Swapfest 1986 attracted hundreds of people to Beeland Park last Sunday as radio “hams” and pros can to sell and swap equipment and supplies . . . Paul Mitchell, plant manager at Rheem Manufacturing, presents James Watts with a 20-year service award . . . 10 years ago: Senator “Walking” Wendell Mitchell was honored Wednesday at Cambrian Ridge by over 100 people representing many walks of life . . . Robert Samuel Bennett will retired on February 2 after nearly 29 years as a rural postal carrier serving Greenville and the Forest Home communities. A life-long resident of the Mt. Zion community, Bennett plans to farm, hunt and fish in his retirement . . . Mr. L. T. Charles of Georgiana turns 110 this week. He served in WW I and II. One of his favorite sayings is “Feed me or fight me!” . . . winners of the F-H Club raffles include Larry Moore of Georgiana, Catherine McClain of Georgiana and Mary Crenshaw of Greenville . . . Lady Tigers overpower Lady Jaguars, 50-29, with Kalette Mixon leading the scoring with 10 points and two rebounds . . . the Ella Wall Research Club celebrated their 75th anniversary at the Cotton Boll at Oak Hill . . .
