Students learn about farm life

Rule No. 1: brown cows don’t give chocolate milk.
That’s one of many things kindergartners from around the county learned last week at the annual Farm-City Tour.
Local farmers brought out chickens, pigs, horses, goats, calves and sheep for students to learn about and touch.
Also on hand were the Natural Resources Conversation Service, Smokey the Bear and the Alabama Forestry Commission, and the Alfa Farmers Federation.
However, one of the most popular demonstrations was the Mobile Dairy Classroom.
Amanda Griffith and Daisy the Jersey Cow demonstrated how a cow is milked, and students also learned about different types of cows.
Following the tour, the students were treated to a lunch courtesy of the Luverne Kiwanis Club, Food Depot, Dairy Fresh and Golden Flake.
