Council discusses new clock problems

While Luverne’s new clock is up, work is still being done to get it running, Mayor Joe Rex Sport told the city council on Monday.
The clock was installed on Nov. 8, but Sport reported difficulty getting the time set.
“We ended up sending the control box of the clock back to the company,” he said.
Sport called the company and had an engineer walk him through the steps to set the clock.
“Even after he walked us through it, we still couldn’t get it to work,” Sport said. “They said we should have the new box back by Christmas.”
The council also heard reports of a leaky roof at the Luverne Police Station and at the Multipurpose Center.
Sport said both issues will need to be addressed.
In other business, the council declared a vacancy in the District 3 city council seat.
Councilman Merrill Sport left that seat to accept a position on the Crenshaw County Commission following the Nov. 2 election.
“We can’t make an appointment to that seat at this time, but we’ll do that at a later meeting,” Sport said.
