Despite five fumbles, the McKenzie offense still handled Red Level on the road Friday night, 30-0.
Head coach Miles Brown was pleased three of his backs – Jakar Adams, (106), Sir Wallace Presley (101), and Cliff Pugh (103) – had 100-yard games. But he wasn’t happy with the fumbles.
“We just put the ball on the ground too much,” said Brown. “Defensively, though, I thought we played our best football game of the year. Especially considering how many turnovers we had. The defense just would not let them (Red Level) score.”
The Tigers led 14-0 at halftime on the strength of a 14-yard touchdown run by Adams and a 20-yard scoring run by Pugh.
Emmanuel Johnson added an eight-yard touchdown and Adams had a 12-yard touchdown in the second half also for McKenzie, which is ranked No. 8 in Class 1A.
On defense Ladarius Grace led the team with 12 tackles. Kendrick Ball had 10 tackles and two sacks. Tadarius Gill had nine tackles and a sack. Matt Lewis recovered a fumble for the Tigers.
