The fledgling Georgiana Civitan Club has gotten off to a big start with their first fundraiser. The group held a Supplies for Success Drive for students and teachers at Georgiana School last Friday and Saturday and collected nine boxes full of school supplies, along with $376 in cash donations.
More good news: the club has reached its goal of 30 chartered members, which means it will earn an additional $500 in seed money from Rotary International for future fundraising endeavors.
“The club is doing absolutely awesome,” said Tami Awe, president-elect of the Enterprise Civitan Club, sponsor for the Georgiana club. “We’ve had members appearing on the TV news and on the radio and there is so much excitement. It’s great!”
The fifth club meeting is slated for Thursday night, August 12 at 5:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Highway 106 in Georgiana. The final club meeting before charter ceremonies and banquet on August 26 is set for Thursday, August 19.
Following the charter, meetins will be held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month.
