Stephenson, community volunteers honored by superintendent

The man who proved a tireless one-person campaigning machine for the passage of the school tax renewal during the June primary was honored last week for his efforts.

BCSS superintendent Darren Douthitt presented Allen Stephenson with a special plaque thanking him for his efforts to ensure the renewal passed.

“I just played a small part in this,” Stephenson said. “It’s all the teachers, support staff; all those who work with our children to give them a quality education who make this possible . . . we didn’t have money to buy ads. So I made the effort to bridge the gap and get out into the county to get the word out.”

A number of school volunteers from across the county were also recognized by Douthitt: Tim Patton, Mary Bertha Zorn, Charity Weed, Lucy Foster, Michelle Barrow, Janet Croley, Greg Griffin, Charles Smith, Sheila Ballard, Lester Odom Jr., Jackie Stuckie, Sherry Odom, Allen Odom, Tiffany Shufford, Shneqwa Bone, Joanne Jones, Mickey Jones, Wanda Norris, Beaster Lewis, Jessica Benjamin, Patti McClure, Raymond Gregory, Jean-Anne Heupel, Kimberly Sims, Diane Wood, Betty Whittle and Greg Williams.
