It’s official: Joseph Dean will remain in Butler County as principal of Butler County Magnet School/Georgiana School.
With his resignation formerly rescinded at Thursday night’s BOE meeting, Dean, who was briefly employed as principal at Escambia County High, will be back in the city the Monroe County native has described as being “like home to me.”
Georgiana mayor Mike Middleton is all smiles over the news. “We’re so happy to be getting Mr. Dean back here,” he said this week.
BCSS superintendent Darren Douthitt said he is also looking forward to having Dean return to the fold.
“I don’t know that I could have found another person of his stature to fill that particular position,” Douthitt said Friday.
“I hope the community lets him get these recent events behind him so he can more effectively get the job done.”
Douthitt said he had fielded several “very positive” phone calls concerning Dean’s possible return to the south Butler County principalship.
Dean, whose most recent tenure in Butler County was as interim superintendent after Dr. Mike Looney’s departure, had worked at Escambia County High slightly less than two weeks when he resigned the position Monday.
He said it was a mutual agreement with the Escambia County superintendent Dean was not a “good fit” for that system.
