MONTGOMERY – All beaches on Alabama’s coast are open, Governor Bob Riley assured residents on Monday.
“Like all states along the gulf coast, we are closely monitoring the oil spill, but it has not caused any of our beaches to be closed,” said Governor Riley. “Our beaches remain as open and beautiful today as they were a month ago.”
Governor Riley issued the statement reaffirming Alabama’s beaches are open in response to an e-mail that is circulating that claims the beaches are closed by order of the Governor.
That e-mail is false.
“I don’t know who would write such an e-mail, but if you get it, ignore it. It’s not true,” said Governor Riley.
Daily flyovers of the coast report that no oil sheen has been observed near state waters.
