The county’s new superintendent hopes to wrap up contract negotiations with the Board of Education this Wednesday.

Darren Douthitt said in a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon he planned to be in Greenville on April 7 to finalize details of his contract with board attorney, Pete Hamilton.

“I’m hoping to get it signed and get that taken care of,” Douthitt said.

He said he is still looking at May 3 as a tentative start date in Butler County.

“I’ve spoken with my boss here in Lee County, and it looks like all the heavy lifting will be done by the end of April, so early May looks good,” Douthitt said.

BOE member Joe Lisenby expressed hopes the negotiations would be finalized this week.

“Once that is done, we will look at holding a special called meeting,” Lisenby said.
