James Lee Allen Jr. died March 14, 2010 at Crowne Health Care of Greenville. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at noon at Mt. Ida Baptist Church near Greenville with Rev. Michael Pouncey officiating and James Herbert Funeral Home of Greenville directing. Interment followed in Magnolia Cemetery.
He was born on December 20, 1937 to the late Mason James Allen Sr. and Rosie Allen in Greenville. A retired City of Greenville employee, he worked for the Sanitation Department for over 30 years.
Mr. Allen accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Ida Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until his illness.
His memories will be forever cherished by his family: one loving and devoted niece, Gwendolyn Tyson, Greenville; one loving sister, Vergie M. Tyson, Greenville; one loving brother and sister-in-law, Jonnie Joe (Ida) Williams, both of Greenville; two aunts, Susie Palmar of Birmingham and Shirley Pouge, Chicago; six nephews, Jim (Jewel) Tyson, Michael (Betty) Tyson, Thoris (Jackie) Tyson, Joey Tyson and McCarthy Tyson, all of Greenville, and Anthony (Katherine) Tyson of Montgomery; three special and devoted friends, Silas Herbert, Forest Home, Michelle H. Albritton and Alice Weaver, both of Greenville, a host of great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
