Mahlon Stead

Mr. Mahlon Maurice Stead, 91, a resident of Greenville, AL, died on Thursday, March 11, 2010, in Montgomery, AL.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodland Heights Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.  Mr. Stead was born and reared in Louisiana.  He has lived in Greenville since 1935.  He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War.  He was married to the former Frances Hartley Stead.
He raised one daughter and three sons, one of whom, Wallace C. Stead, has preceded him in death.  He is retired from the U. S.  Postal Service for 31 years.  He was an avid reader of history and biographies.  He is also preceded in death by his parents:  Bernard A. and Nadia Blomquist Stead and a brother:  Bernard A. “Bo” Stead, Jr.  He was a Past Worshipful Master of Eureka Lodge #64 of Greenville, AL, a member of the American Legion Post #24 of Greenville, AL and a lifelong Republican.  Mr. Stead is survived by his wife:  Beeland S. Stead of Greenville, AL, daughter:  Pamela S. Paulk (Philip) of Birmingham, AL, 2 sons:  Maury Stead (Elaine) of Marietta, GA, Ricky Stead of Greenville, AL, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, step-sons:  Chris Timbie (Kandy) of Cumming, GA and Rand Timbie (Wendy) of Montgomery, AL, nieces and nephews.  The family will accept flowers or donations made to one’s favorite charity.  The Volunteers of L.
