McKenzie council adopts ordinance for flood insurance

At Monday night’s town council meeting, council members voted to adopt an ordinance to accept flood insurance within town limits. The move will allow citizens to obtain flood insurance if so desired. Without such an ordinance in place, the town would not be able to file for additional grants. A similar adoption was made in 2004.
Council members are still hoping to attract a dollar store/convenience store to the town.
“Just keep on calling,” said Mayor Melvin Shufford. “I understand there is still interest being shown in bringing a business like that here.”
In other town news, McKenzie Fest is set for Saturday, May 8 in downtown McKenzie.
Sponsored by the McKenzie VFD, proceeds from the event will help furnish the new firehouse. Booths are available for rental by contacting Leann Waters at 334-374-0069, 251-369-0332 or the McKenzie Town Hall at 334-374-2311. The annual event features live music, concessions, and a large variety of arts and crafts.
