Greenville High School is a step closer to repairs for the gym and band room damaged in recent flooding.
Last Thursday night the Board of Education approved acceptance of the lowest bid, $202,222 with Danny Cements. Other bids and bidders were Steward Construction, $262,000, Hutchison Construction, $210,260 and Whirley and Whirley Construction at $228,000. Interim Superintendent Joseph Dean said the cost would include replacement of the gym floor.
When queried about coverage for damaged band instruments, Dean said the school had a 60-day window to report damage to any instruments.
“I have been told by the band director that damage doesn’t always show up immediately if there is internal rust for example, so we have some additional time for that,” Dean said.
The repairs will be covered by insurance, less a $500 deductible.~
