LBWCC scholarships available

For the first time, LBW Community College is providing one application for all scholarships and high school seniors have until March 1 to apply.
“A wide variety of scholarships for high school students are available through Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, LBW Community College Foundation, and MacArthur State Technical College Foundation in recognition of academic achievement and financial need,” said Heather Owen, LBWCC recruitment director and scholarship committee chair. “In the past, students had to complete separate applications that went to different people on campus depending on various scholarship requirements. With this new application process, more information is available for students and high school guidance counselors and one application covers all college and foundation scholarships.”
Depending on the scholarship requested, an additional audition, portfolio submission, or interview may be required, she added.
“Once received, applications are processed according to scholarships requested. If anything additional is required, the student will be contacted.”
All area high school counselors now have LBWCC scholarship applications, which must be submitted by March 1, 2010 to be eligible. Scholarships are available for all LBWCC locations, including Andalusia, Opp, Greenville, and Luverne.
“Since there is a limited time frame to complete the process, we are urging students to download an application today from the college website, www.lbwcc.edu, or ask their high school guidance counselor for the packet.”
Students must meet all requirements prior to consideration by a scholarship committee. The short time frame for scholarship acceptance by students eliminates the ability to process late applications, she said. Scholarship awards are usually announced during high school awards days.
