Get healthy Butler County

Angela Green admits she didn’t make it to her goal of losing 10 pounds during last year’s “Scale Back Alabama.”

But the communications specialist for Pioneer Electric, which sponsors the event, says she wants to “get healthy.”

“I’ll be honest with you . . . I came here weighing 138 pounds. I now weight 151 pounds . . .. I can feel the extra weight and I want to improve that,” Green admitted.

Green shared details of the free 10-week program with members of the Greenville Rotary Club on Thursday, including statistics from last year’s participation in Butler County.

“In 2009, we had 75 teams made up of 300 individuals who weighed at total of 62,705 lbs. The total amount lost was 1,478 lbs. – short of our 3,000 lb. target. We had 97 people who lost at least ten lbs. and 28 teams who stayed together and weighed in and out together. That shows real teamwork and community spirit in those individuals,” Green said.

She said McLendon’s Medical Supply had provided a brand-new digital scale that will be put to use starting next Monday. January 25. Weigh-ins will take place at Pioneer Electric between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. January 25-29 on Thursday, January 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“We didn’t expect such a huge turnout last year and we want to make it even bigger and better this year,” Green said.

“There are no daily or weekly weigh-ins, there’s no cost, there’s no strict plan you have to follow. Get your team of four together and lose weight, get healthy and have fun.”

Weekly “Scale Back” luncheon meetings at Shoney’s are set to begin February 1 at noon, Green said.

While teams and individuals meeting their goals will have their names go into drawings for prizes at the state level, Green said they hoped other businesses would support “Scaleback” and offer prizes and monetary rewards to Butler County participants who meet their goals.
