James Herbert

Mr. James E. Herbert passed away January 6, 2010. He was born April 5, 1927 in Greenville to the late Mrs. Mary and Sam Herbert.  He attended Lomax Hannon High School and Tuskegee Institute.  He met and married the late Foster Mae Price Herbert.  They became parents to four wonderful children:  Yolanda Herbert the late Gina Lawson, Karen Abbott and James Herbert.  He later remarried the late Shirley Dillard. He was a WWII veteran.
Mr. Herbert was a pioneer.  For many years he owned and operated Herbert Electric Company in the City of Detroit where he employed his family, brothers, children and others.
Mr. Herbert became a devout member of the Jehovah’s Witness in Detroit, Michigan in 1970.  He continued his practices in Greenville where he lived out his life. 
 He leaves to cherish his memories:  two daughters, Yolanda Herbert, of Detroit, Mich. and Karen Abbott(James) of Lathrup Village, Mich. and one son,  James E. Herbert Jr. (Teresa) of Detroit; two sisters:  Margaret Spencer (Maurice) of Birmingham and Gennette Caldwell (Gilbert) and three brothers:  Sam Herbert III (Beulah)  of Charlotte, NC., Calvin Herbert of Detroit and Gene Herbert (Shannon ) of Greenville, six grandchildren,  along with a host of  nieces and nephews. Hudson Funeral Services will be in charge of the arrangements.
