Dana Burkett

Dana Herston Burkett, 55, passed away December 16, 2009.  
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at Southwinds Baptist Church in Tomball, Texas of which he was a member. 
Services were performed by Dr. Harold Clayton, pastor and friend to Dana for many years.  Dana was the oldest son of Morris Herston and Bobbye Jewel Burkett of Georgiana. 
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rene’ (Siler) Burkett; children, Heidi Deane Emmons of Florida, Devin Herston Burkett of Texas, and Bonnie Leann Burkett of Texas; two grandchildren, Ariana Cristine and Makenna Jewel Emmons of Florida, two brothers, Scott and Ken Burkett of Georgiana, as well as several nieces and nephews. He also has many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Georgiana community. Dana was preceded in death by his brother Ben Burkett of Georgiana. 
Dana resided in Cypress, Texas and has worked in the off-shore drilling industry for many years.  As a result, he has made friendships around the world.  Dana was born in Kentucky in 1954 and, during his younger years, traveled the world with his family, as his dad was in the 11th Airborne Division in the U.S. Army.  Dana graduated high school in Heidelberg, Germany and went on to attend junior college on a baseball scholarship.  Dana enjoyed frequent visits home to Industry to hunt, fish, play basketball and golf with his brothers, dad and nephews. 
He was also an exremely proud supporter of the Alabama football program.  He was a family man in every sense.  He was fun, smart and full of life.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
