Willie Gertrude Wingard, 100, a resident of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and formerly of McKenzie, Ala. died Nov. 12, 2009 in her home in Poplar Bluff, Mo. after  a short illness. She was born April 22, 1909 in rural McKenzie, Ala. to Martha Nena Parker Drake and William Henry Drake. She worked as a drugstore clerk and on the family farm. She married John James Wingard on Sept. 4, 1943. He was a farmer, electrician, and building contractor. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her daughter Karen, and her brothers Ammon, William, Thoeophilus and Wendell. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Beck and husband Bruce Beck, grandson John Henry Beck of Springfield, Mo.; Granddaughter Charlotte Baedke and her husband John and their daughters Riley and Noelle of Virginia Beach, Va.; Grandson Christian Beck of Columbia, Mo.; and Granddaughter Bonnie Beck of Columbia, Mo. Gertrude was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church. She was active in Home Demonstration clubs. She was always eager to go places and try new things. Gertrude loved her family, many friends and church. Funeral services will be 3 p.m Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 from the Johnson Funeral Chapel with Elder Dicky Dour officiating. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana directing. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until funeral time.
