Two killed in weekend accidents
A pair of separate accidents claimed two lives in Butler County over the weekend.
On Friday, Alabama State Troopers said Jere W. Garland Jr., 43, of Winchester, Tenn., was killed in a two vehicle accident occurring six miles south of Greenville I-65. Injured in the accident was Robert Earl Atkins, 36, of Pensacola, Fla. Atkins was transported to Baptist Hospital in Montgomery for treatment.
The accident, which happened at approximately 11:15 p.m., left I-65 blocked for several hours while maintenance workers cleared the interstate for traffic.
On Sunday, Troopers said Darlene Irene Fenter, 44, of Palm Bay, Fla., was killed when her 1994 GMC Jimmy wrecked on Alabama Highway 106 eight miles east of Georgiana. The accident happened at 8:25 a.m.
Troopers James M. Rice and Tracy Morgan are investigating the accidents.
