Sweet Potato Festival: The Butler County Optimist Club is holding its annual Sweet Potato Festival from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., November 7, 2009 at the Butler County Fairgrounds.

Sweet potato pies, cakes, fish sandwiches, boiled peanuts, Tupperware and many, many other items. Kings and queens, boys and girls and adult kings and queens will be crowned. Info: 382-5533 or 382-3202.

M-D VFD Turkey Shoot: Midway-Damascus VFD will hold a turkey shoot from 8 a.m. until on November 7. Hamburgers and fixins’ available. Raffle tickets – $2 buy s a chance to win $500 to ve given away December 12.

Downtown Holiday Art Show: The Fine Arts League of Greenville is hosting an art show downtown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, November 7 at Whitney Bank’s downtown location. Come enjoy holiday refreshments and festive tunes and browse among paintings, drawings, stained glass, fine art photography, notecards and handcrafted items and holiday décor.

Aberilla Chapter #170 OES Tea: The Annual Tea hosted by the Aberilla Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and open to the public, is slated for 3 p.m. November 7 located at the corner of South Park and Palmer St. in Greenville. Searcy Volunteer Fire Department Portrait Fundraiser: Searcy VFD will have Folds Photography taking portraits on November 7. $20 package – 1 8×10, 2 5×6 and 8 wallets; $35 package – 2 8x10s, 4 5x7s and 8 wallet prints. GHS Fall Play: Greenville High School will stage its production of “Caught in the Act,” on Thursday, Nov. 12, Saturday, Nov. 14, and Sunday, Nov. 15. The Thursday and Saturday productions start at 7 p.m., while the Sunday production starts at 2 p.m. An admission cost will be charged.

Dry Goods, Closet Giveaway: The College St. Church of Christ will host a dry goods and closet giveaway for the needy on Nov. 14 at 7 a.m.

Safe Harbor Box Lunch: The Butler County Children’s Advocacy Center/Safe Harbor will have a box lunch delivery of the Chicken Shack’s famous chicken salad on Nov. 19. Greenville Christmas Parade: The Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the annual Greenville Christmas Parade on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Greenville. The theme this year is “Christmas, Alabama Style.” Entries will be allowed to throw candy as long as the rules stated on the application are followed. Applications can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce or can be downloaded from greenville-alabama.com. Call 382-3251. There will also be concessions at Confederate Park.

“An Evening with Santa”: The YMCA is sponsoring an Evening with Santa. Santa Claus is available to make home visits and greet your children. For more information about scheduling Santa Claus’ visit to your home, call the YMCA at 382-0550.

111th Church Anniversary Celebration at St. Francis: St. Francis Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville will observe their 111th anniversary at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 8. Theme: “Building on a Solid Foundation.” Speaker: Rev. Samuel Johnson, pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Luverne.

Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church 48th Anniversary: Pastor Anthony Baxter and the Harrison St. Baptist Church family extend an invitation to their 48th anniversary observance at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 8. Rev. Mathew Coleman and the Mount Sinai BC of Gantt will be special guests. Dinner will be served.

Gospel Singing: Brooks Assembly Of God will be having a gospel singing on Nov.8 at 5 p.m. The guest singers will be Darrell & Tojuana from Pensacola, Fla. Everyone is invited. The church is located about 7 miles south of Mckenzie off the four lane.

Harvest Festival at the YMCA: Southside Baptist Church and the YMCA invites your family to a fun-filled time Saturday, Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. The season will be celebrated with games, activities, good food and much more. Admission to the activities will be an item of nonperishable food. Popcorn, hotdogs, and hamburgers, etc. will be on sale at the concession stand. We’ll have inflatables, hay ride, fish pond, Power laboratory, and lots more.

GHS All-Class Reunion: A reunion of all classes and teachers of Greenville High School is scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend, Friday, Nov. 27 through Nov. 29. A number of events are scheduled, including Midnight at the Movies, tours of the old and new Greenville High School facilities, Sherling Lake BBQ and a Ritz Theatre Gala featuring musical and theatrical performances by GHS Alumni.
