Jerry McGough

Jerry Ronald McGough Sr. went to the Lord on October 9, 2009, after courageously battling cancer for eight months. He was born on July 16, 1948, the first child of Pruitt and Katie McGough. He attended Highland Home School for 12 years and was graduated in 1966. He excelled playing baseball and football for the Flying Squadron from 1960-1966. He attended Troy State University and received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and business administration in 1970.
After a seven-year courtship, on August 23, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart Joan Hudson and remained her faithful and loving husband until his death. He is survived by his wife, sons Ron (Tina) McGough and Benjamin McGough (special friend Amanda Dunn); grandchildren Treyton, Reagan, and Natalie McGough; mother Katie McGough; and brothers Donnie McGough, Lonnie McGough, and Jonnie McGough. He is preceded in death by his father, Pruitt McGough.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather and was known to his friends and family as Ronnie, Earl, and Ganddaddy. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior as a youth while attending Danielville Baptist Church.
Ronnie worked with Horace Mann Educators, First Alabama Bank, and Liberty National Insurance Company. At the time of his death he was employed by the State Insurance Department working as a mediator between consumers and insurance companies. He enjoyed assisting Alabama citizens to receive compensation from unresolved claims.
Ronnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, gardening, singing, and Alabama football.
His funeral services were held October 12, 2009, at Spring Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home of Greenville directing. The service was conducted by Brother Joe Leverette. Pallbearers were Mike Dunn, C. J. Faulk, Ollie Godwin Sr., John Hyden, Ronald Lansdon, Ed Paulk, and Stringer Pritchett. Honorary pallbearers were Earnest Hudson and Emmett Bell.
