Suspected safe stealers arrested

Butler County deputies have arrested a 21-year-old man and 14-year-old juvenile for a burglary that occurred at a business on Pineapple Highway over the weekend.

Derrick Rhodes, 21, and the 14-year-old male suspect, each face charges of burglary, 3rd, theft of property, 1st, and criminal trespassing. Rhodes also faces an additional charge of possession of marijuana, 2nd.

Sheriff Kenny Harden said a 100-pound safe was stolen from Bobby’s Used Cars between the hours of 5:30 a.m. on Sunday and 10 a.m. on Monday. The safe contained a large amount of currency and titles to approximately 50 automobiles. Harden said the suspects broke a window in the back of the business and entered through there.

After an investigation, deputies arrested Rhodes and the juvenile on Monday afternoon and were able to recover the titles and some of the currency.

Deputies are actively seeking a third suspect in the burglary as well.
