12 vie for Junior Miss title

An even dozen of the county’s best and brightest high school seniors will be vying for scholarship monies and the title of Butler County Junior Miss this weekend.

After a busy week of rehearsals, the curtain will rise at 7 p.m. this Saturday night at the historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Greenville for “Goin’ Wild with Junior Miss.”

The participants will be evaluated in self-expression, fitness, talent, academic and interview areas, with the first three categories taking place on stage Saturday night.

“We’ve had a wonderful time working with a great group of girls,” said Starla Jones, director of the BCJM Scholarship Board.

“We are looking forward to an exciting program on Saturday. We encourage everyone to come out and see some of the finest, most talented young ladies our county has to offer.”

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night. Tickets are general admission and are $10 for adults and $5 for students at the door.

Saturday night’s winner will go on to the state finals in January 2010.

National sponsors for America’s Junior Miss include the City of Mobile and Mobile County. National category sponsors are Alabama Power, Encore Rehabilitation, Mobile Gas, Regions Banks and the Bobo Baker Scholarship Fund. The 53rd Annual AJM finals will be in Mobile June 26, 27 and 28, 2010.
