Southland, a new gospel group, is coming to Butler County to perform at First Baptist Church of Georgiana at 6 p.m., June 28.

Greg Aplin, a longtime southern gospel performer and a director of the LBWCC Ensemble show choir lead the Andalusia-based six-member group.

Aplin, a former member of the OldTimers Quartet and the Rhythm Masters Quartet, says he felt a void when the latter group disbanded in 2002.

After many years of prayer, he said the Lord “woke me up with great news” in March 2009.

Aplin said he was given the name of the members that would be known as Southland.

The members of Southland are: manager and lead vocalist, Greg Aplin; lead vocalist, Landon Morgan; female lead vocalist, Erin Chavers; baritone, Andy Gibson, first tenor, Tyler Young and Dillon Worley.

“Our prayer daily is that God will lead us into a broader ministry and open more doors hat we may be used as ambassadors of Christ to win lost souls . . . I can’t think of any greater service than being given the ability and opportunity to show the love of Jesus through sharing this good news in song with others who may be hurting or lost,” Aplin said.

The group’s members, who include several vocalists from the LBWCC Ensemble, are all blessed with the ability to sing multiple parts, Aplin said.

“They have great personalities, wonderful voices and a real desire to share the gospel through their music.”

Pastor Allen Stephenson of FBC Georgiana wants to invite the community to be a part of this praise and worship experience next weekend.
