Nine members of the Avant Homemakers Club met at the home of club member, Sylvia Taylor, following a Power Point presentation at Pioneer Electric by Linda Horn and a tour of Linda’s back yard on Wood Valley Road.

During their meeting, the winner of this year’s scholarship was announced by president Frances Garner. TaMiya Owens from McKenzie High School was selected as the recipient. Owens plans to study Physical Therapy at Alabama State University.

Funds for the annual scholarship are raised through raffle tickets on a quilt. The completed quilt, in a “Trip Round the Mountain” pattern, with matching shams, will be displayed at and given away at the Hank Williams Festival.
