Barganier awarded horticultural scholarship

An Auburn University senior who hails from Butler County was recently chosen the recipient of the Garden Club of Alabama’s Verna Ruffin Welchel Scholarship.

Anne Cumbie Barganier, daughter of Susan Barganier of Greenville, was awarded the horticultural scholarship in the amount of $2,417 at the Garden Club of Alabama’s Scholarship Awards Luncheon held Wednesday, April 22 at the Holiday Inn South in Dothan. Barganier was sponsored by the Pride of Greenville Garden Club.

A Horticulture major at AU, she is specializing in Greenhouse Science and Production in her studies. She is president of the Horticulture Forum, a service organization in the Department of Horticulture, and an Ag Ambassador, the official representatives of the College of Agriculture. Barganier works as a lab assistant in the Department of Agronomy and Soils in forage breeding and for Randle Farms in fruit, vegetable and cut flower production. This is her third year to receive a scholarship from the Garden Clubs of Alabama. She plans to graduate in spring 2010 and pursue a career in horticulture crop production. – Submitted
