Battery B, 1/117th Field Artillery is hosting an Open House for the public at the National Guard Armory on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“ We plan to have our howitzers, our Fire Direction Center, various small arms such as an M-16, and our vehicles on display for the community to come and see,” said Captain David Simmons. “We currently plan to conduct a dry fire mission at approximately 9 a.m. This will be the ultimate opportunity to see the sections in action. We invite everyone to attend.”
Simmons said it his is hopes to also use Saturday’s exercises and open house as a recruiting tool.
“Our main objective is recruitment,” he said. “We are looking for men who are looking for an extra income, school benefits, and the privilege of serving our great state and country. Being a combat arms branch of the Army, only men are authorized. However, all women that are interested can attend and we can direct you to the Forward Support Company recruiter as they can accept both male and female soldiers.” – From Staff Reports
