Hattie Norman McLaney Smith, 85, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in Sprague. She was born February 15, 1923 at Fleta. She was preceded in death by her husbands, C. Knox McLaney Jr. and Glenn D. Smith Sr.; her parents, Richard Webb Norman and Hattie Sellers Norman; brothers, Joe R. Norman, Hartley Norman, Will Hayden (Frances) Norman.
She is survived by her three sons, C. Knox McLaney III, Richard W. (Lorraine) McLaney, J. Hartley (Diane) McLaney; a sister-in-law, Mary Lee Norman; grandchildren, Tara (Stephen) Stanley, Tenise (Paige) Owens, Hayden McLaney, Tyler (David) Strickland, Tyron McLaney, Susanna McLaney, Erin McLaney, Kate McLaney, Annie McLaney, Clay (Jodie) Henley; also survived by stepchildren, Glenn D. (Peggy) Smith, Elaine Smith, Martha (John) Thigpen, Spurgeon (Natalie) Smith; step-grandchildren, Melissa (Frank) Monte, Matthew (Melanie) Smith, Amy and Sarah Thigpen, Kimberly and Caroline Smith; also six great-grandchildren, Dawson, Parker and Gracie Strickland, Preston, Coleman and Logan Owens, and one step great-grandchild, Catie Taylor. Private graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2009 at Sprague Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Crumbley officiating and Leak Memory Chapel directing. Rev. Alan Tucker will have prayer with the family.
Mrs. Smith was a life-long member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Friday, January 30, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Serving as pallbearers: Tyron McLaney, Paige Owens, David Strickland, Stephen Stanley, Clay Henley and Matthew Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sprague Cemetery Fun in care of Richard McLaney, 540 West Sprague Junction Road, Sprague, AL 36039.
