Clara Dudley Blackmon, age 87, a resident of Camden, died on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Camden Nursing Facility.
Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Camden on Monday, December 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jim Perry officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. eastern time at Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, GA.
Clara Dudley Blackmon was born on June 29, 1921 in Mine Hill, New Jersey, daughter of Clara Neill Dudley and Nolan Lewis Dudley. She moved from New Jersey in 1937 to Columbus, Georgia.
She lived in Columbus until 1995 when she moved to Camden, Alabama.
She was a retired secretary from the Georgia Cooperative Extension Service, a member and Sunday school teacher at the Camden First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Lt. Joseph M. Wilcox Chapter NSDAR in Camden.
She was the widow of Sumpter Blackmon, who preceded her in death on November 30, 1992. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Louise Dudley Byrd and brother, Nolan Lewis Dudley, Jr. She is survived by her son, Dr. Sumpter Dudley Blackmon and his wife, Henrietta; granddaughter, Jennifer D. Blackmon; grandson, Brent Neill Blackmon and his wife, Gena Sue Blackmon; four great-granddaughters, Rachel and Kristen Buttrey and Margaret Ellen and Caroline Blackmon and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may go to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
