Paul Page Huggins of Georgiana passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Watson Huggins, two daughters, Donna Suggs of Plant City, Fla. and Karon Kimmel of Boca Raton, Fla., three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Huggins was born in Georgiana on June 9, 1928, one of six sons of Lulu Page Huggins and E.D. “Doc” Huggins , all of whom have pre-deceased him. He went to Starlington School and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1946, serving at the Pacific Front. Just prior to his deployment, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Watson, on April 19, 1947.
Mr. Huggins moved his family to Tampa, Fla. in 1955 and owned and operated service stations which facilitated his loved of drag racing and mechanics. To fulfill a promise he made to his father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Huggins moved back to Georgiana in 1977 to care for his mother-in-law after the demise of her husband.
He opened a small motor repair shop in Georgiana and operated a lawn maintenance business and eventually moved the small motor repair business beside his residence. He loved the fall, when hunting season began and enjoyed many successful hunts with his beloved bird dogs. Mr. Huggins was a deacon and member of East Chapman Baptist Church and made many wonderful, loving friends there. He was a beloved husband, a loving father and a loyal friend. We will miss his love, his humor and his “sweet” smile.
There will be a visitation at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Georgiana from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 15 with the funeral service immediately following visitation. Graveside services will be held at Union Cemetery. Donations may be made to Union Church and Cemetery Association, Inc. 2669 Wesley Chapel Road, Georgiana, AL 36033. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who shared their grief.
