The actual event may still be six months away, but there’s no time like the present to continue the battle against cancer in Butler County.

A kickoff for the 2009 American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life in the county is slated for November 11 at the Cambrian Ridge Clubhouse.

Relay For Life is the largest cancer fundraiser in the U.S., with events held in more than 4,580 communities nationwide last year. Participants representing area businesses, churches, schools and service groups come together to raise money for cancer research, education, advocacy and patient support programs.

Last year Relay For Life in Butler County raised over $116,000 for the ACS.

“We are looking forward to building on last year’s event and are excited about having new teams and participants to join us,” said Galahad Smith, event chair. “This kickoff is just the beginnings of great things to come.”

The 2009 Butler County Relay For Life is set for May 8-9, 2009 at the YMCA football field.

The public is invited to learn more about Relay For Life at the kickoff, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11.

All those who plan to serve as team captains and as Relay volunteers are encouraged to attend.
