Butler County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested four people believed to be involved in a series of cigarette burglaries at Lil’ Spann’s Country Store on Luverne Highway.

Sheriff Kenny Harden said deputies have arrested Jermichael Hooks, 22, Gerald Dyron Little, 27, Sharee Howard, 23, and Tamera McCall, 27, all of Montgomery.

Lil’ Spann’s was previously burglarized on Oct. 8 and Oct. 24 when someone busted through the back concrete wall on each occasion and stole thousands of dollars in cigarettes.

Working with storeowners, Harden and Deputy Thomas Hallford conducted a stakeout of the area on Wednesday night.

“At approximately 12:45 a.m., a white car pulled up near the store and parked,” said Harden. “We observed two males exit the car and attempt to break through the wall of the store.”

The suspects were wielding a 2-pound mallet, said Harden.

Harden said he and Hallford attempted to halt the two males before more damage was done to the store, but the pair fled on foot. They were able stop the car where the two females inside – Howard and McCall – were placed under arrest.

Harden said a K-9 unit from Atmore and Greenville police were called in to help track the two men.

Deputies were notified that Little was on Mashville Rd. Thursday morning trying to flag down traffic for a ride.

Harden said a citizen brought Hooks to sheriff’s deputies near the same area.

“He (Hooks) came up on this person and asked for a ride,” said Harden. “The citizen figured he was the person we were looking for and brought him right to us. I applaud the citizens of Butler County for stepping in to help this way.”

Over $1200 in cigarettes were seized from the car the four suspects were driving, said Harden, believed to have been stolen from a store in Letohatchee earlier that week.

The four individuals were charged with attempted burglary, 3rd, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, and receiving stolen property. Additionally, Little was charged with resisting arrest.

They are currently incarcerated in the Butler County Jail.
