Today is the day the Greenville Lions take over the airwaves of Q-94 FM at its downtown studios.
From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Lions will be on the air reading ads from sponsors and sharing trivia questions with listeners, who can call in for a chance to win one of numerous prizes donated by local individuals and businesses.
In the afternoon, callers can dial in to cast their votes for this year’s “Ugliest Man,” a title of high honor for its recipient.
The man chosen for this accolade will ride on a throne of honor in the city’s annual Christmas Parade.
Lions Radio Day, held annually the last Wednesday in October, is a lot of fun for the Lions playing “deejay for a day,” but organization sole fundraiser has a serious purpose: to aid in sight preservation and restoration and to promote leadership skills in youth.
“The monies raised by Radio Day go to such worthy causes as Southeastern Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Alabama Sight Foundation, free eye exams and glasses for local indigent patients, Lions Leadership Camp for high school students, and other charitable programs,” said Lion Ricky Cargile.
“We appreciate all those who have supported us through the years and hope lots of people will be listening in today.”
