A fun-filled family day in the park is in the works for this weekend in Greenville.

The 2nd Annual Butler County Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday in Confederate Park.

“We appreciate community support of our law enforcement officers here in Butler County, and this is our way to give back and say ‘thank you’ to the community,” said Capt. Al McKee, jail administrator and co-chair of the event committee.

LEAD will offer local families plenty of free food, games, children’s activities, entertainment, goody and door prizes, including the chance to win a new 25-inch TV.

Travis Waters of the Georgiana PD will play deejay for the day.

The day will offer more than all the fun and games, however.

Along with a chance to meet and greet the county’s law enforcement officials, attendees will be able to talk with area attorneys, visit booths for local colleges and technical schools, and get medical advice and well-being screenings courtesy of the Butler County Health Department and Mid-South Home Health.

Derrick Cunningham of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will be the day’s guest speaker.

Cunningham is a familiar face to many local TV viewers from his appearances on “County Law.”

“We had a great event last year and we are looking for it to be even bigger and better this year. We hope lots of folks will come out and join us,” said Kenny Harden, Butler County sheriff.
