Update on Hawkin’s Lane

UPDATE 2/8/21 9:00 a.m.: The Butler County Road Department has been able to  make a temporary road allowing residents in and out of their homes in Hawkins Lane. We are waiting on an update from Dennis McCall with the Road Department on other road closures and will bring you more information as it is made available.

UPDATE:

Mr. Dennis McCall with the Butler County Road Department just reached out and gave me some information regarding Hawkins Lane.

“The situation on Hawkins Lane has nothing to do with weekend.  We were overwhelmed with over 8 inches of rainfall and currently have 8 roads closed with road damage.  Hawkins lane is the most critical closure we have due to residents stranded and one cancer patient on Hospice.  In coordination with EMA, Red Cross and Volunteer fire, we are in constant communication with residents.  Butler County personnel assisted with providing emergency supplies to residents by boat.  Monday is the estimate for making temporary repairs to restore water and access.  This estimate is simply when we estimate we can access suitable material to make repairs.”

Residents on Hawkins Lane near 10 west have been left stranded at their homes with no way out after heavy rains washed the road away making it completely impassable.

According to Robert Blankenship, there are five families who are unable to leave and get needed items. The Butler EMA has brought a small boat to float items over to the families.

“These families have been told they do not know when they will be assisted,” Blankenship said.

According to Blankenship, the families have no running water and were told by the Butler Road Department that they cannot assist because it is the weekend. Attempts to reach Mr. McCall at the road department have not been successful.

Residents along the road have been trying to find a way to assist the families by cutting trees to try and provide a way out. Blankenship is asking for anyone that can be of assistance to please help the families out. He can be reached at 334-300-8394
