Community members celebrated the grand re-opening of Greenville Equipment center June 16, turning out en masse for the longtime business’s official ribbon cutting at a newly renovated location. The event marked a significant milestone for the local business owners, celebrating the equipment dealer’s expansion into a larger space to better serve customers across Butler and surrounding counties.

Owner Thomas Phelps and his staff welcomed Mayor Dexter McLendon, members of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce, community members, family and friends to unveil the updated facility.

“We remodeled a much larger facility,” Phelps said. “…We had grown out of our space probably within the last five to 10 years. We’re excited but we’re ready to be done with the transformation process.”

The new location, now open at 801 E. Commerce Street, features an impressive selection of ATVs, lawn mowers, side-by-sides and a wide array of used equipment. The updated facility also includes a full-service department offering ATV and mower repair, as well as parts and maintenance services.

The business serves customers from Greenville, Evergreen, Luverne and surrounding areas and has been a local staple in outdoor power equipment for years.

Phelps’ wife, Casey Phelps, reflected on the legacy and growth of the family-run business.

“Greenville Equipment has been a huge part of his (Thomas) life,” she said. “His dad started it and [co-owner] Rick [Whiddon] too… Thomas’ dad started it and when he passed away it was really sad but I know he’s smiling down on us today.”

The move to the new building felt as if it were meant to be, according to Casey.

“They were pressed for space over there and they were going to have to remodel everything,” she said. “And it was just a Godsend that this building became available. Everything just fell into place. There were so many things that just worked out so perfectly to make this happen. It’s just a blessing.”

Greenville Equipment Center invites the public to stop by and explore the new showroom, browse the expanded selection and experience the family-owned service that has kept the business going strong for decades.
