Pages of The Greenville Advocate are busting at the seams, so to speak, brimming with coverage heralding the cooperation of local leaders toward progress for Butler County.
Frankly, it’s refreshing to bear witness to the efforts of Butler County Commissioners, the Butler County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and others who work tirelessly for the good of local residents, bringing much-needed change and improvements important to our communities.
Recently (see page 1), the Butler County Commission approved a grant funding restoration of the courthouse clock. In a day and age when people were a smart watch more for its ability to text and make phone calls, not so much to tell time, updating the iconic facility’s facade with a new-age timepiece gives a nod not only to our county seat’s long and storied history while providing practical functions that embody the very flavor Greenville is famous for.
Rosie Till, EMA director, drafted the grant application while simultaneously pushing out severe weather alerts and working with agencies to restore the county’s emergency committee (also see page 1). In our opinion, Till epitomises the servant leadership vital to the success and longevity of Alabama’s small towns.
The Sheriff’s department added crucial equipment recently (see page 2). Meanwhile, college students hailing from across the county were honored by their schools, making the Deans and President’s lists at the University of Alabama and Troy University (see page 9).
Recently, Butler County Schools Superintendent Joe Eiland congratulated newsroom staff on receiving Alabama Press Association (APA) awards for covering local news, calling Greenville Newspapers a “a precious resource for Butler, Lowndes and Crenshaw counties.”
We are grateful for these kind words and want our community members to know our successes are only possible due to the efforts of local citizens and leaders. The cooperation and dedication to community growth we document for posterity is unique and deserving of all the illumination we can provide.
