A large crowd gathered June 11 for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Good Brew Coffee, the latest addition to Greenville’s growing business scene. Mayor Dexter McLendon, Chamber of Commerce members, local business owners and community supporters turned out in full force to welcome the new shop and show their support for owner Chapman Simmons, who also owns the popular eatery Camellia’s Pizza and Creamery. 

“Since we opened the ice cream shop, we’ve had hundreds of people ask us to open a real coffee shop,” Simmons said. “And at first I was like, I don’t know anything about coffee but after so long of going around to different coffee shops, I decided it was something we needed here.”

Located at 842 Fort Dale Road, Good Brew Coffee offers specialty coffees, espressos, flavored drinks, energy refreshers and a selection of pastries and treats. 

“We’ve been open about two and a half weeks now and it’s been crazy busy,” Simmons said. “Thankfully, we have a lot of great employees.”

A unique feature of Good Brew is its partnership with Flint’s Smokehouse, which operates a pop-up kitchen within the coffee shop. Owned by Michael Flint, the smokehouse brings freshly prepared barbecue plates, salads and sandwiches to customers daily.

“I started in ’21, just doing catering and purchased a building in Highland Home in February of last year… so it’s been almost a year that we’ve been in the building,” Flint said. “Catering is still our main driver but outsourcing, like we do here and with the vending machine… is starting to take over.”

Flint emphasized the freshness of the meals offered at Good Brew.

“Everything’s made fresh throughout the night or the morning of, and I drop it off every day,” he said. “I try to keep it as stocked as possible. I have a lot of customers here that live in Greenville that I’ve catered for so it’s been great.”
