Nina Bonner has officially announced her candidacy for mayor of Georgiana, pledging a grassroots, community-driven approach rooted in faith, collaboration and a long-standing love for her hometown.
“With much prayer and encouragement from the community, I have decided to run for Mayor of Georgiana,” Bonner said. “I’ve lived here all my life, and I truly understand both the challenges and the untapped potential of our town.”
Bonner, who owns and operates Simply Beautiful Events, emphasized the importance of small business growth, emergency system improvements and accessible leadership in her campaign message.
“I’m not a politician trying to sell a dream,” Bonner said. “I’m a community member who loves her town and its people and wants to see us continue to move forward.”
Danny Black, owner of A Color Affair in Georgiana, shared his support for Bonner, citing a long history of professional and personal collaboration.
“Well, I met Nina when we first moved here,” Black said. “She approached us about joining the downtown Georgiana Group, along with her… So we’ve developed not only a professional, but a personal relationship along with her.”
Black described Bonner as a leader with both passion and purpose.
“She really cares about Georgiana,” Black said. “She’s proud of Georgiana and proud that she grew up here. I think that she has a really good vision for Georgiana as well… and I think she has the capabilities to take us there. It’s not just a bunch of talk.”
Bonner’s campaign platform includes initiatives aimed at economic development, youth and senior programs, beautification, tourism and improved communication with town leadership. She also stressed the need to work closely with the city’s industrial board and council to build “healthy, respectful relationships.”
Black echoed those sentiments, adding, “I know she will work to bring business to our town, which is critical for everything else… Nina, I think, is the person that I can see doing that.”
Bonner hopes her leadership style will reflect the values of openness and inclusiveness.
“She’ll also be a mayor that is very easy to go to. She’s the type that will continue to listen to the people of Georgiana and take them in the direction that they want to go.”
Bonner emphasized that her goals are not overnight fixes, but long-term efforts guided by prayer, public input and a steady hand.
“I’m simply committing to lead with the best of the God-given ability, strength and vision I have,” she said.
A guiding scripture for her campaign, Bonner noted, is Matthew 19:26: “With man this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
